What two hours with a local changes

  • Standing at Blaak with the Laurenskerk, the Markthal and the Cube Houses in one view, and hearing what 14 May 1940 left behind.
  • Learning why the Lijnbaan of the 1950s mattered as much as the Erasmusbrug of 1996, on the walk between them.
  • Crossing the bridge to the Kop van Zuid and seeing where a million emigrants boarded for New York.
  • Choosing your afternoon with someone who knows: the Depot, the Euromast, a water taxi, or Delfshaven.

What the walk covers

  • Centraal, the Lijnbaan and the 1950s reconstruction
  • Blaak: the Laurenskerk, the Markthal and Piet Blom’s Cube Houses
  • The harbours, the Erasmusbrug and the Kop van Zuid
  • What 14 May 1940 destroyed, and what the city decided to become

Meeting point

At Rotterdam Centraal, city side, or at Blaak, agreed by email.

Tailored to you

  • Architecture and urban design: more on the post-war plan and the recent decade
  • Port and shipping history: the Kop van Zuid, the Holland America Line, the SS Rotterdam
  • Families: the cube, the market hall, the water taxi
  • Photography: routes timed for the light on the bridge and the Depot

Worth it if

You want the architecture explained by someone who studies or lives it, or you have limited time and want the essential route with no dead ends.

Not needed if

You are happy to look at buildings without the reasons behind them; the centre is easy to navigate with the metro.

Price

From €185 per private group of up to 4 for 2 hours; €20 per extra person up to 6. Three hours from €255. Train tickets, admissions and food are not included. You get a confirmed price by email before you decide.

Where we stand

Dutch City Tours started in 2026 and this walk has no reviews yet. We will not invent any. The guide is an independent local we arrange and name before you confirm. This is an enquiry, not a booking; nothing is charged until you have agreed.

Your guide

We arrange an independent local guide for each enquiry: a local guide who knows Rotterdam well, speaks good English and is good company. You are told who your guide is, by name, before you confirm anything.

Guide profiles will appear here once guides have agreed to be listed. We do not publish people who have not consented, and we do not invent them. Questions about a guide before you enquire: hello@dutchcitytours.com.

Questions people ask

Does the walk go inside the Depot or the Euromast?
No; they are for your afternoon. Your guide ends the walk with a plan for them, and admissions are paid on the day.
Does the walk include a water taxi ride?
It can, at the boat’s fare, if you want the river as part of the two hours. Say so when you enquire.
