What two hours with a local changes

  • Hearing why a ten-year-old Mozart was brought to the Bavo to play the Müller organ, while standing beneath its 5,000 pipes.
  • Stepping through the door of a hofje founded in 1395 that you would have walked straight past.
  • Seeing where Frans Hals is buried before deciding whether the civic guard portraits deserve your afternoon.
  • Knowing by lunchtime whether to stay for the Teylers, head for the windmill on the Spaarne, or catch the ten-minute train to the beach.

What the walk covers

  • The Grote Markt, the Bavo and the story of the Müller organ
  • Hofjes: which courtyards are open and how they worked
  • Frans Hals and the civic guard, told in the streets
  • The Spaarne, the windmill and where locals eat

Meeting point

At Haarlem station or on the Grote Markt, agreed by email.

Tailored to you

  • Art: Hals, the Teylers and what to see afterwards
  • History and the hofjes: a courtyard-led route
  • Families: the windmill, the market, short stops
  • Combining with Zandvoort beach or Leiden the same day

Worth it if

You want the hofjes and the church explained by a local who knows them, or you have a short window and want a proper introduction before exploring alone.

Not needed if

You want a relaxed wander and a coffee; Haarlem is small and obvious.

Price

From €185 per private group of up to 4 for 2 hours; €20 per extra person up to 6. Three hours from €255. Train tickets, admissions and food are not included. You get a confirmed price by email before you decide.

Where we stand

Dutch City Tours started in 2026 and this walk has no reviews yet. We will not invent any. The guide is an independent local we arrange and name before you confirm. This is an enquiry, not a booking; nothing is charged until you have agreed.

Your guide

We arrange an independent local guide for each enquiry: a local guide who knows Haarlem well, speaks good English and is good company. You are told who your guide is, by name, before you confirm anything.

Guide profiles will appear here once guides have agreed to be listed. We do not publish people who have not consented, and we do not invent them. Questions about a guide before you enquire: hello@dutchcitytours.com.

Questions people ask

Can the tour start in Amsterdam?
No; your guide meets you in Haarlem. The train is fifteen minutes and runs every few minutes, so timing is easy.
Is the Corrie ten Boom House part of the tour?
No. It runs its own guided tours by reservation. Your guide passes the house and can explain the story from outside.
