What two hours with a local changes

  • Standing on the Oude Delft where Vermeer walked to work, with the leaning tower of the Oude Kerk explained rather than just photographed.
  • Reading the bullet holes at the Prinsenhof from outside and understanding why 10 July 1584 is the reason the royal crypt is in this town.
  • Learning which of the two churches is worth your ticket today, and whether the 376-step tower is worth it in this weather.
  • Leaving with a decision made: Royal Delft this afternoon, or the fifteen-minute train to Vermeer’s originals in The Hague.

What the walk covers

  • The Markt, Stadhuis and Nieuwe Kerk, and why the royal family is buried here
  • Oude Delft, the leaning Oude Kerk and Vermeer’s Delft
  • The story of Delft Blue and where to see the real thing
  • Where to eat, what to do with the rest of your day, and whether to add The Hague

Meeting point

Near Delft station or on the Markt, agreed by email. Your guide waits with a sign at the agreed time.

Tailored to you

  • Vermeer and painting: more time on Oude Delft and the Oude Kerk, and a plan for the Mauritshuis afterwards
  • History and the House of Orange: the Nieuwe Kerk monument, the Prinsenhof from outside, the Revolt
  • Families: shorter stops, the tower climb, and where the good stroopwafels are
  • Slow pace, wheelchair or pram: a flat route with fewer cobbles, agreed in advance

Worth it if

You want the history and the paintings to connect, you have limited time and want it used well, or you are travelling with someone who would rather listen than read.

Not needed if

You are happy wandering with a map and a phone. Delft is compact, signposted and safe; you will not get lost.

Price

From €185 per private group of up to 4 for 2 hours; €20 per extra person up to 6. Three hours from €255. Train tickets, admissions and food are not included. You get a confirmed price by email before you decide.

Where we stand

Dutch City Tours started in 2026 and this walk has no reviews yet. We will not invent any. The guide is an independent local we arrange and name before you confirm. This is an enquiry, not a booking; nothing is charged until you have agreed.

Your guide

We arrange an independent local guide for each enquiry: a local guide who knows Delft well, speaks good English and is good company. You are told who your guide is, by name, before you confirm anything.

Guide profiles will appear here once guides have agreed to be listed. We do not publish people who have not consented, and we do not invent them. Questions about a guide before you enquire: hello@dutchcitytours.com.

Questions people ask

Does the tour include admission to the churches?
No. Admission is paid on the day if you choose to go inside; your guide will tell you what is worth it. The combined church ticket was €10 per adult when checked in September 2026.
Does the guide travel with us from Amsterdam?
No. Your guide is local to Delft and meets you there. You take the train yourself, which keeps the price down and lets you decide when to arrive and leave.
Can we do Delft and The Hague with one guide?
Ask. Some guides cover both; otherwise we arrange a Delft guide in the morning and, if you want, a Hague guide in the afternoon.
