One day is the right amount for Delft. Give the morning to the Markt, the two churches and the old canals, take lunch on or near the square, and spend the afternoon either at Royal Delft or on the fifteen-minute train to The Hague for the Mauritshuis.
This itinerary assumes you arrive by train from Amsterdam between 9:30 and 10:30 and leave between 17:00 and 18:00. Everything except Royal Delft is within ten minutes of the Markt. Times are generous; Delft is a city to look at, not to rush.
Both churches are closed to tourists on Sundays. If you are here on a Sunday, swap them for the Vermeer Centrum and Royal Delft, both open daily, and a longer canal walk.

- 10:00Delft station to the MarktLeave the station on the city side and follow the canal north. You reach the Markt, with the Stadhuis at one end and the Nieuwe Kerk at the other, in about ten minutes.
- 10:15Nieuwe KerkThe mausoleum of William of Orange and the royal crypt (not open to the public, but the monument is). If the weather is clear, climb the tower: 376 steps, views to Rotterdam and The Hague. Allow an hour with the climb.
- 11:20Oude Delft and the Oude KerkWalk the Oude Delft canal, the city’s oldest, to the Oude Kerk with its leaning tower. Vermeer’s grave is marked inside. Thirty to forty minutes.
- 12:00Vermeer CentrumOptional but useful: reproductions of every known Vermeer and a good explanation of his light and perspective. Forty-five minutes.
- 13:00LunchOn the Markt if it is Thursday market day, or the quieter Beestenmarkt two minutes away.
- 14:15Choose your afternoonOption A: Royal Delft, 20–25 minutes on foot to the south-east, museum and painters at work, about ninety minutes. Option B: the train to Den Haag Centraal (about fifteen minutes) for Girl with a Pearl Earring at the Mauritshuis, then return to Amsterdam from The Hague.

Do not follow this plan on a Sunday if the churches are essential, and do not build it around the Prinsenhof, which is closed for renovation until at least 2027.
